Durban Runner Renovation

Durban Runner is a sports shop in Morningside Durban. An old building was converted into a high end sports shop, which included a coffee shop. Sketchworks carried out the design for this project. 

The client approached us with a brief to reconfigure an old building layout to include a retail, office and coffee shop space. The ground floor was opened up by creating two large central structural columns. The columns support a lattice of steel columns that suspend the floor and walls above, resulting in an open plan retail store. The floor above is divided using drywall to separate the offices.

An unused back yard was transformed into a courtyard with a coffee shop and main store entrance. A new entrance to the property was created from the main road.
